‘THE TWO-YEAR LEARNING CURVE IS OVER’ Supervisor Daphne Norton is shown here in late 2023 taking her oath to begin a four-year term on the Nottoway Board of Supervisors.
The Nottoway Board of Supervisors has begun its third year serving together, and District Three rep Daphne Norton is declaring, “The two-year learning curve is over.”
Supervisor Norton made her comments during Thursday night’s reorganizational meeting and Board work session. “It’s time for the rubber to meet the road….we’ve had to learn but we’ve got a laundry list of projects to complete. No more status quo.”
Board Chairman Bill Collins agreed, saying, “Now it’s our fault,” suggesting no more looking back at previous Boards’ decisions.
Mrs. Norton said at least one elected official in another county is impressed by the Nottoway Board. “I had a gentleman tell me the other day that he stands back and he watches from another county, and he is very impressed how well we work together — even when we agree to disagree. And when we disagree at times, WE WORK THROUGH IT, and we are actually working toward goals that are attainable.”
Supervisor Bo Toth chuckled, “Damn, I gotta find out what county he’s from, and see how that Board gets along.”
Mrs. Norton said that conflict can be healthy. “If we weren’t scrapping — as my Granny used to say — we wouldn’t be learning. It builds character.”
Chairman Collins agreed. “We wouldn’t get all the ideas out if we just sat here and agreed with each other.”
