Kenston Forest began its 60th school year last Wednesday, Aug. 13th with 480 students in grades PreK through 12 — about the same number when the previous school year ended in June. Opening day photos: page 12
Kenston Head of School Lori Bacon provided the Courier Record a county-by-county breakdown of Kavalier enrollment:
Nottoway 184; Mecklenburg 101; Dinwiddie 73; Lunenburg 61; Brunswick 27; Amelia 14; Prince Edward 9; Chesterfield 7; and Charlotte 4.
Kenston, which opened in 1966, today has 74 faculty and staff members, including part-time employees.
Head of School Bacon reports that there are a “few remaining openings in some lower school grades. Our upper school is at capacity.
Mrs. Bacon said that once a school year begins, Kenston is cautious about adding students. “It’s hard for teachers to add new students once a class has moved forward.”
Mrs. Bacon said the school has witnessed dramatic growth in recent years and she’s pleased with how the school has been able to absorb higher enrollment and add staff while also still maintaining a close-knit environment and offering a wide range of extracurricular activities for students.
“I could not be more proud of how far we’ve come and all the exciting adventures that I know lie ahead. We have the best students and families. It makes my job the best job in the whole world!”
