Nottoway Supervisor John Roark says he’s not the “Johnny Walker” who often comments on Courier-Record and other posts.
Comments made by the account, which apparently is fake, have been critical — harshly at times — of some County and Town officials and other public figures.
In his Facebook Live address last week, Roark recalled a Facebook exchange several weeks ago when a Blackstone Councilman (Jake Allman) suggested that “Johnny Walker” is actually Roark.
“They think it’s me,” Roark told viewers Thursday. “And I think it’s hilarious.”
Roark said that if he drank, he’d raise a glass of “Johnny Walker” to whomover is using that Facebook account.
Roark spoke-out to ‘Walker,’ saying, “Whoever you are, you’ve got’em rolling. They think it’s me, but I believe it may be the Council member who didn’t want something coming out. Oh, oh? Am I fixing to say something I shouldn’t? Maybe it’s the councilmember who accused me of being ‘Johnny Walker.’ Maybe he’s ‘Johnny Walker.’”
Roark added, “Maybe they wanted to deflect and say it’s me, but I have never in my life said something that I didn’t want you or anybody else to know that it came from me. I’ll be damned if I’m gonna hide behind a fake profile now. You know that’s not me.”
Roark added that a local mayor came to his defense recently, saying Roark couldn’t be ‘Johnny Walker’ because ‘Walker’ was making Facebook comments shortly after Roark suffered a stroke. “How can I be ‘Johnny Walker’ when when I was incapacitated in a hospital with a stroke? And ‘Johnny Walker’ was giving some people hell.”
Roark concluded, “Hats off to you, Johnny. You’ve got’em rolling, whoever you are. They think it’s me, and I think it’s HILARIOUS. So anyway, keep doing what you’re doing, Johnny.”
