‘WE APPRECIATE YOU’

Officials still torn on recognitions

Nottoway Supervisors are still trying to decide how best to recognize residents who go to great lengths to help others.

At a worksession Thursday night, Supervisor Dicky Ingram said he’d like the Board to recognize three EMTs who recently saved a stroke patient, as well as a deputy sheriff and another man who several months ago helped evacuate residents from a burning home.

Supervisor Daphne Norton expressed concerns about the potential for inconsistency and omissions, saying, “I think we’re setting precedent.”

Chairman Bill Collins agreed. “I don’t want to miss somebody who did something wonderful.”

Mrs. Norton said that if the County had resources to keep abreast of such good deeds, “We could do it once a quarter or something. But I don’t want to miss somebody.”

Collins said the military gives out “challenge coins” on occasion. He suggested a coin with Nottoway County’s seal.

Another suggestion was to give recipients an official County pin. No consensus was reached.

The Board holds its next regular meeting tomorrow night (Thursday) at 7:00 p.m.
