A Big Deal Back In 1975

Fifty years ago, back in September 1975, the Blackstone Shopping Center opened with three stores — King’s Supermarket, Revco Drug, and Super Dollar. Revco and Super Dollar held their grand openings first — with a parachutist jumping from 3,000 feet and landing safely in the shopping center parking lot. King’s opened the following week. The building was late renovated in 1992 for Food Lion, which has operated here since Sept. 1993. The “Rt. 40 shopping center” has expanded both northwardly and southwardly over the years and today is home to several businesses. It was boundary adjusted into Blackstone town limits in July 1992 when the Town nearly doubled in size geographically.
