BACK FROM ALABAMA It was November 1990 when this future educator was featured in the Courier- Record. Local student Carrie Mouser of Burkeville -- now Nottoway Public Schools administrator Dr. Carrie Mouser Gravely -- attended the United States Space Academy in Huntsville, Alabama for a one-week course. She’s taken-off like a rocket ever since! She’s the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Charlie Mouser of Burkeville.

TALENTED YOUNG MAN Young, handsome, talented Derrick Greenhill of Blackstone blew away the judges at a pageant in Danville back in November 1990, winning the title of Mr. Black Teenage Virginia. He also won 2nd runner-up in the Mr. Black Teenage World event in Winston Salem, NC. He competed in Talent, Sportswear, Evening Wear, and Creative Expression. Derrick is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Simon Greenhill of Blackstone.

RISING STAR Les Atkins of Crewe won a $500 scholarship offered by a Roanoke cable TV company. It was awarded in November 1990 -- 35 years ago -- to a student majoring in Radio/Television/ Production at Virginia Western College in Roanoke. Les, who went on to enjoy a successful career in radio and TV broadcasting, is a 1990 graduate of Nottoway High and, at the time, was working as a weekend announcer at WSVS in Crewe. Les is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Raymond E. Atkins.

She was a member of the National Honor Society and was active in school, community, and church activities. She’s the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Nathaniel Pritchett of Blackstone.
