They’ve earned our support
Dear Sir:
Nottoway County has some serious financial problems, and there are elections next year for the Board of Supervisors. This is a volatile situation where quick decisions could be counterproductive to getting Nottoway County in a healthier financial position.
Do not be too quick to judge the current Supervisors and then want them out next year.
What the County needs is to maintain continuity of leadership during these troubling times. It is no doubt difficult on each of the Board members to deal with the inherited problems of the past plus new ones of recent doing.
Much effort has been expended on the part of Supervisors to learn what the problems are, to discuss the possible solutions, weigh the pros and cons, and make decisions on the best way forward. This hard-earned experience is invaluable to the County in that lessons of the past two years are not lost because disgruntled, uninformed voters want the current Supervisors out.
What is important is that these Supervisors have made the best decisions at this point that are best for the County. I did not say the decisions have been popular or painless, but they were decisions that had to be made.
Could you have made better decisions? If so, maybe your name should be on the ballot next year.
Do not punish the current Supervisors for the mistakes, bad decisions, and bad management of their predecessors. Be thankful there are five individuals who have given their time and effort to correct the course of Nottoway County.
In support of our Board of Supervisors.

Dear Sir:
Where is the respect in Nottoway County government?
I was appalled to read the article in the Courier-Record with regards to the disrespect of our American Flag that is just shy of 249-years-old. Congratulations to the county resident who has love and respect for our flag, which he removed from the Nottoway Courthouse flagpole and chose to give our flag a proper disposal.
How funny that after the torn, tattered flag was presented to the Nottoway Board of Supervisors, it just happened to come to light that a brand new flag had been ordered and was sitting on a desk — AND not one of the elected officials (Supervisors) had any comment.
All elected officials associated with Nottoway County government should remember the same residents of Nottoway County who VOTED them into office CAN VOTE them out.
It is PAST time to perform ALL the duties of your elected position. Be totally TRANSPARENT and HONEST with ALL Nottoway County residents.

Did they run on raising pay?
Dear Sir:
The Democrat majority State Senate is set to pass a budget soon, and one provision in it includes a pay raise that would nearly TRIPLE their salaries!

Dear Sir:
As a fan of college basketball, I always get excited this time of year.
March Madness is right around the corner, but we’re putting on a full court press right now to secure funding for the water line replacement project. As you may know, replacing the 3½ mile aging infrastructure that conveys raw water from the reservoir to the water treatment plant is a $9 million undertaking.
We have two budget amendments sponsored by Republican law makers in support of this project; now we’re working on the other side of the aisle. Phone calls yielded no response, so a barrage of letters and emails are going out to key Senators, the Appropriations Chair, and the Governor soliciting their support for the aforementioned amendments!
We’re going to stay on the mission and will keep you posted. Stay tuned!

She deserves to be heard
Dear Sir:
So why isn’t Blackstone Town Council meeting with the lady (former Treasurer Karen Morris) who quit? She said she wanted to meet with local officials privately and share her observations.
Are the Town Manager and Town Council trying to cover-up something, including possible corruption?
We know that the mayor is just a puppet. Is there a hostile work environment on Elm Street?
Not sayin’ but just sayin’: Town Hall needs to be investigated.
