The Courier-Record’s longstanding policy for letters to The Forum is no more than 300 words per letter, preferred. Exceptions are made if there is available space and if a letter is well-written, compelling, and isn’t repetitive.
We also prefer no more than letter per calendar month from the same writer. We have been very flexible with that policy in recent years.
Starting in April, we are going to strictly enforce the policy of one letter per calendar month from the same writer. Exceptions still will be allowed for rebuttals — if a letter writer’s opinion is criticized.
The Courier-Record wants more voices in The Forum — a place where all residents of the community with differing views can express opinions, observations, and make suggestions in a civil, constructive manner. Of course, public officials and public figures are fair game for negative comments. That comes with the territory.
When there are weeks with few letters to The Forum, we will devote space to more Photos from the Past and more stories From The Record, both which appear to be popular with readers.
