Nottoway sophomore Katherine Gravely smacked a line drive homer over the fence Thursday, and she also hit two doubles to help give the varsity Lady Cougar softball team a 16-5, six-inning, slaughter rule victory at Prince Edward.
Four other Nottoway players also doubled — Alaina Vaughan, Taylor Atkinson, Cambria Ashford, and Anari Smith.
Gravely’s solo shot cleared the centerfield fence. “She smoked it, it was a no-doubter,” said Head Coach Travis Andrews. Gravely (3-for-4) also scored four runs.
Cheyenne Estep tripled and got the win pitching, striking-out seven Lady Eagles and giving-up only two hits and no earned runs. Olivia Shorter pitched three innings and struck-out four batters, allowed four hits, and three earned runs.
Nottoway led, 7-5, after four innings before adding three in the 5th and six in the 6th.
The Lady Cougars entered this week 6-5 overall, 3-2 in the James River District.
